Midnight Blue (1963): Jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell featuring Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Major Holley on double bass, Bill English on drums and Ray Barretto on conga. Midnight Blue is one of Burrell’s best-known works for Blue Note Records. In 2005, NPR included the album in its "Basic Jazz Library", describing it as "one of the great jazzy blues records".

Summertime...

Summer: the season between spring and autumn, in the Northern Hemisphere from the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox, and in the Southern Hemisphere from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox.

Well it is official, summertime is here again. Even though 4th of July weekend is pretty much the half way point when it comes to the summer season it has always been my "personal" beginning of summer.

Baseball, barbecues and swimming...summertime has it all.

Memorial Day in Ohio isn't always a sure bet for great weather, and Labor Day is the sign that summer is over for another year. But 4th of July with the fireworks, parades and the American flag...you just can't beat it.

Country music also sounds the best in the summer months. Country music was made for outdoor events, and family and friend gatherings. And country girls are the best. No divas or drama queens like rap and R&B, and prima donnas like Lady Gaga or Madonna. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of R&B, Rap and pop music, but the performers act's are old, tired, and at this point in my life, uninteresting.

Besides, country girls are hot.

I feel like a twenty year old guy about right now. Pardon my perspective and maturity level, but they are flippin' hot. C'mon man...Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Kellie Pickler....I mean OMG, kElly PiCkleR is unbelievable (Look...I can't even type) and don't go to sleep on Reba McEntire. Ok, she is cute, but what a great personality...Love her.

...see what I mean (Kellie Pickler)

...OK, enough already (Kellie Pickler)

OK, I'm done

My point is that country girls are beautiful, sweet and let's just say that the cut off shorts with a baseball cap at a summer country concert wins every time. I know I took the "liberty" to indulge in many generalities, but hey it's the 4th of July weekend...It's all about liberty.

Anyway, if you get a chance watch and listen to Kenny Chesney's song "Summertime"...it will immediately put you in a summertime frame of mind.

"Summertime"

Summertime is finally here
That old ballpark, man, is back in gear
Out on 49
Man I can see the lights

School's out and the nights roll in
Man, just like a long lost friend
You ain't seen in a while
And can't help but smile

And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime

Temperature says 93
Down at the Deposit and Guarantee
But that swimmin' hole
It's nice and cold

Bikini bottoms underneath
But the boys' hearts still skip a beat
When them girls shimmy off
Them old cutoffs

And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime

The more things change
The more they stay the same
Don't matter how old you are
When you know what I'm talkin' 'bout
Yeah baby when you got

Two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle rollin' on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime
